We were supposed to go to Baguio for the long weekend. It didn’t push through because my MIL was feeling under the weather and Alvin’s truck had to be brought in to be fixed.
I kept asking Alvin where we can go for that weekend. A beach trip or a staycation would be fine with me. Wag na daw kami umalis. Ang corny but I relented. Ayoko naman umalis kung hindi naman bukal sa kalooban.
Alvin often asks me why I always want to go on trips. Anubeh. I love traveling, obviously. I like checking out new places. I love eating specialty food of a certain place. And, bihira ang long weekends. Maybe kung alam niyo lang how exhausted my brain is from work and from all other stuff, you will understand why I always want to go somewhere to relax in every occasion possible. You will understand why I take advantage of vacations. And you know, life is short. Habang healthy tayo, habang may money, habang we are still able to travel together, gora lang dapat ng gora.
Kaso yun nga. Stay at home ang peg namin last weekend.
Alvin got Anika four hamsters as pets.
Cute na cute ang Anika while ako’y diring diri. They do not look like the cute hamsters I see on TV. They look like rats. Rats that do not do anything but to sleep and eat the whole day.
Yun lang, Alvin has something to blackmail Anika with pagmakulit siya.
Exage. But of course Alvin’s joking. Aminin man niya or not, I know he’s already attached to those four lazy hamsters.
On Saturday night, we took Anika to our family house so that we can leave her with LT. Para kako makapag-date kami ni Alvin. We just went to this neighborhood bar to have a few drinks. Janis and her hubby followed around 10pm and we went home around 11pm.
Nung uwian na, nagulat ako when Alvin opened the truck’s door for me. Akala ko hihimatayin ako sa sobrang kilig, grabe.
I don’t know if I’ve told you this already pero simula nung sinasakay ako ni Alvin sa car niya back in those days, he would always open the car door for me. Always yan ha. Walang mintis. He stopped lang when Anika came to this world.
So ma-ihi ihi talaga ako when he opened the car door for me again.
On Sunday, Wowa treated us to dinner at Izakaya Kikufuji, a Japanese restaurant at Little Tokyo near Makati Cinema Square. Izakaya Kikufuji has been around for so many years and they are always packed. The reason may be is because they serve very close to authentic Japanese food. I was told that you need weeks to reserve a table here. If you do walk in, you need to prepare for a long wait because patok sa takilya ang peg ng dami ng customers nila.
Eh hindi kami prepared.
Faye, who lives near the restaurant arrived earlier to reserve seats. May pila na for dinner as early as 5:30 pm.
I was amazed because SOBRANG DAMING TAO who wants to eat there. As in wild ha? Their waiting list is sooooo long. And because there are a lot of customers, it took forever for the orders to come out from the kitchen. When I say matagal, walang halong pagiinarte na matagal. We are talking about a 45 minute wait for some of the dishes which feels like 10 years if you are really, really hungry.
Wala. Because of the volume of the customers, hindi na sila naging efficient in the kitchen. Yes, the food was good but I don’t think I will eat there again pag-ganun ulit ka dami ang tao.
Here are the food that we ordered. Photos were taken by my cousin-in-law, Fonz.
This is the Chicken Teriyaki rice bowl. It’s so good but it came out almost an hour after we ordered it.
The California Maki is normal.
The special California Maki was delicious. The fried tuna sashimi inside is spicy so it gives a certain kick to it.
Toots ordered Tempura but he said he didn’t like it very much.
Anika loved the Kani Salad.
We ordered five kinds of Sashimi at around Php 700. They were fresh but super bitin!
What I loved most was the melt in your mouth Gyu Kushi at Php 125 each stick. Ang sarap ng Wagyu beef na ito. They were grilled to perfection. In case you guys will eat here, you have to get this dish!
The next day, Anika and I went to Makati to do some last minute shopping. Alvin called while we were there. Galit na galit. Hindi daw ininom ni Anika yung anti-asthma chewable medicine niya last night. Alvin thought Anika did it deliberately but after talking to Anika, she really just forgot it.
ANIKA: Nanay, is Tatay really mad?
ME: Yeah. Kinda. He doesn’t like wasting medicine. And he doesn’t like that you don’t drink the medicines that are given to you by your pedia.
Anika was silent.
ME: What are you thinking about, Anika?
ANIKA (bursting to tears): I know Tatay’s cooking my hamsters right now!!!
Hahahahaha! Grabe! Ang dami kong tawa!
Of course I told her Alvin will never do that. That’s how our long weekend went.
How was yours?
