If you have noticed recently, I have been paying more attention to my health. I exercise at least 3 times a week and I make sure I eat the right kind of food. It’s paying off naman because since November last year, I have already lost 13 lbs.
Yuh. Thirteen. Amazing. Pounds!
If I lose 7 lbs more, I will be back to my pre-pregnancy weight. However, my goal isn’t to be that thin. 100 lbs is too thin for me. Para akong malnourished na hindi healthy. My husband likes a little “laman” so I will just be maintaining this weight and exercise more so the flabby areas could firm up.
After 6 months of threading this path to a healthier me, I have realized 3 things that can make losing weight faster (and healthier):
- Eat healthy breakfast.
- Skip the carbs at night and eating the last meal 4 hours before sleeping.
- No drinking soda and no eating (excessive servings) of sweets
Tried and tested yan mga mare. Ang bilis makapayat. Remember, losing weight is 95% eating right and 5% exercise. However, para naman hindi kawawa, I eat what I like every weekends. I try not to overindulge pero at least I have the weekend to look forward to so I can eat ice cream or not stress thinking about what I can or cannot eat.
At home, we only get to eat breakfast together during weekends. Check out our dining table last Saturday.
Last weekend’s breakfast was extra special because I discovered California Dairy products.
I don’t know with you mommies but whenever I’m in the grocery stores, I am faced with a lot of choices for dairy products. I recently learned that the top quality ones have a seal: Real California Milk.
The seal can be found on different milk cartons and ice cream, and of course, different types of cheeses. Dairy products in groceries like Unimart, Robinsons Supermarket, Merkado and SM Hypermarket plus membership shopping giants S & R and Landers give you a wide range of dairy choices carrying the seal. With the Real California Milk seal, it’s a stamp of assurance that you’re getting a true blue dairy product from America’s leading dairy state.
California pala muthers have 1,300 dairy farms in which 99% of them are family owned. Their pastures and farms to produce only high quality dairy products. Northern California’s climate offers a lot of pasture-based grazing while in sunny Central and Southern California, farms use free stall barns. Fans and misters keep the cows cool, and they have access to shade, food and water 24/7. Dairy farmers throughout the state ensure that the cows are healthy, comfortable and safe as cows that are under stress typically produce little to no milk at all.
Products bearing the Real California Milk seal mean that they were made exclusively with California milk and are power-packed with calcium, protein and other nutrients in each serving.
Okay, that’s my Real California Milk 101 for you.
The question is, how does it taste?
I had Anika try the California Sunshine Homogenized Milk. You should know that Anika can be a milk critic. She has tried the different brands of fresh milk in the grocery stores. She likes comparing the taste of her different milk. If she likes, she will patronize the brand. If she doesn’t, nothing can make her drink it ever again.
When you ask her naman the difference, sumasagot naman in her own description.
“Nanay, it’s not creamy.”
“Nanay, it tastes blah. The other one tastes better.”
“Nanay, this one’s very thin. It’s like water na.”
And so made her drink the California Sunshine Milk that morning.
According to Anika, it’s the best milk she has ever had.
I raised my eyebrow at her. She drank two glasses of milk that breakfast. Tinikman ko nga din.
Aba, she was right. It’s really good and I don’t even like drinking milk!
It tastes so fresh that I was able to finish my glass. Ang sarap, promise. It’s different from the other milk drinks that I’ve tried. The California Sunshine milk has my and Anika’s thumbs up!
Moving on, I know you know this na. I eat yogurt for breakfast almost everyday.
Did you know that one serving of yogurt contains many essential nutrients like protein, calcium and phosphorus to help build and maintain strong bones and teeth? Zinc boosts the immune system, making one less susceptible to colds. Riboflavin and panthothenic acid also help the body with metabolism. Yogurt also has vitamin B12 to keep the nervous system healthy and blood functions normal.
Ang healthy, right. But wait, there’s more.
With all its nutrients, yogurt is recommended for weight loss and weight management. The protein in yogurt signals the body that you’re full and its amino acids get to work on burning fat.
Remember what I said earlier! If you want to lose weight and be healthy, we need to eat right!
I had the Blue Isle Greek Yogurt in Honey Blueberry for breakfast together with my granola cereal.
When I opened and scooped it, para siyang smooth jelly. It’s texture wasn’t like that of the other yogurts that I’ve tried. The ones I’ve tried were thick and liquid-y. And when I tasted it, emergerd, it was soooo good! It doesn’t taste too sour. It’s smooth and sweet but not that sweet. Ang galing ng balance. I even had it during snack time. It was like eating ice cream without the guilt. Hahahaha!
The other dairy product that I discovered is the cooking / grilling cheese. Again, this has the Real California Milk seal.
I tried the Yanni California grilling cheese. I pan fried it using olive oil for breakfast. It turned brown on the sides and it tasted like mozzarella cheese! It was soooo good! Anika asked me to cook it again so we can make it papak while watching movies at Netflix.
The cooking cheese gave me an idea for a nice pasta recipe.
Here are the ingredients that you will need:
- the Yanni Grilling Cheese
- pasta noodles
- your favorite pasta sauce (I chose the Spinach with Smoked Tinapa sauce that I got in a bazaar)
- salt and pepper to taste.
If I’m the one making it, you are assured that it is very, very easy.
First, cook the noodles according to the instructions. Set aside.
Next, cut the grilling cheese to your desired shape and size. You can grill it or pan fried it. For this recipe, I fried it with olive oil. Konting oil lang. Set aside.
And then saute the mushroom with the garlic in olive oil. Tatalsik ang mantika. Beware.
Put the sauce. Saute. Tatalsik again ang oil. Double beware.
Then add the cheese.
Season with salt and pepper.
In fairness to my simple invented pasta recipe, masarap siya. The cooked cheese added to the flavor and texture of the pasta.
It’s delicious and the same time, healthy because I know that I used cheese with the Real California Milk seal =)
