Good thing the sun sets very late in Amsterdam and Belgium when we were there. 10pm may araw pa. Okay because we arrived very late in the afternoon na in Bruges from Brussels. At least, with the sun setting late, we were still able to go around.
Bruges is the capital and largest city of West Flanders, a province in the Flemish Region of Belgium. Their historic city center is a World Heritage Site of UNESCO. I’ll show it to you later. There are a lot of canals here too so it’s often referred to as the Venice of the North.
There is a movie daw in 2008, I have yet to watch, entitled In Bruges. It stars Colin Farrell and maganda daw yung movie. It featured different iconic sites in Bruges. Panoorin ko nga yun.
Once scene there daw is the Basilica of the Holy Blood.
The Basilica of the Holy Blood houses a relic of Jesus’ holy blood allegedly collected by Joseph of Arimathea. Joseph Arimathea was a rich man and a disciple of Jesus who assumed buried Jesus after the crucifixion. According yan sa mga 4 Gospels in the Bible.
Sadly, the church was already closed when we arrived. Hindi ko tuloy napasok.
This is the Markt or Market Square. This 1 hectare open area is located at the city center and a lot of historical highlights in Bruges can be seen here.
The buildings here which are actually shops and restaurants are very colorful.
You can also find here the Belfry of Bruges which is one of the city’s most prominent symbols. It leans daw about 87 centimeters to the east. Hindi ko lang na-check out. Best talaga to research about the new place you are going to first before you go para malaman mo yung mga trivia na ganyan and see for yourself. This tower served as an observation post in spotting fires and other danger before.
And of course, when you’re in Bruges, you have to buy Belgian chocolates.
This row of shops and restaurants will be the first thing that you will see when you emerge from the parking.
In front of those shop is this scenic site na talaga namang binantayan ni Papa until magsunset for photos. Apparently, this place has the nicest sunset scene.
We had a dinner in one of the restaurant near that scenic site. Bantay bantay nga kasi talaga nila Papa and Kuya Yul yung site na yan for the sunset. The restaurant is called De Gastro.
I had their shrimp and it was one of the juiciest and most delicious shrimps I have ever had!
There was also the smoked salmon salad na again, sobrang fresh and good.
Wild lang if you order bottled water in their restaurants. Very seldom in the restaurants where we ate at that they gave free drinking water. Most of the time you have to order. In this restaurant, one bottled water (mukhang 1 liter) costs Php 800! We had to order 2 because there were 6 of us and 1 bottle wasn’t enough. I told them that the cost of that one bottle of drinking water is equivalent na to the 1 month bill of my house’s water consumption.
Here are some photos taken and edited by cousin-in-law, Kuya Yul. He takes great photos. They’re based in UK and he sometimes take in clients for wedding photoshoots.
I will definitely go back to this beautiful city, Bruges. I wanna go inside the Holy Blood Cathedral. I want to go around more and eat at the other restaurants there. And ofcourse, nandiyan ang mga Belgian Waffles. Kailangan talagang balik-balikan yun.
