I cannot believe that Anika’s growing up so fast. I can still remember her crawling, doing her first baby steps, enrolling her in toddler class, graduating in preschool and then I just blinked and now she’s in third grade!
She’s very madaldal, you know. I am amazed when we have our daily conversations, ang mature niya maganalyze ng things. Sometimes I get teary eyed because I can see that she’s growing up to be a very kind and compassionate person. As parents, we all know that this is one of the major items in our prayers. Lumaki sanang mabuting mga tao ang mga anak natin.
Academic wise, she’s doing good. She’s struggling a bit with Filipino but over all, keribelles naman.
Outside school, she’s into volleyball (influenced by me, of course), Tiktok (where she makes cute dubbing videos), singing (kaso medyo hindi mahilig yung singing sa kanya but we can still work on it lelz) and dancing. Ohhh, she loves dancing so much! She’s really good at it too! Every year, she is asked to join by her teachers in dance contests and programs. In fairness, their group wins all the time. But winning isn’t what’s important. I tell her that all the time. Sabi ko ang important is that she’s enjoying what she’s doing and I can tell that she really does enjoy dancing.
I encourage her to dance more because I agree that extra-curricular activities, can play a very crucial role in giving the kids the ability to mould their lives to become well rounded people. Ayoko naman puros aral lang siya. I want her to be able to excel in activities that interest her. Speaking of my own personal experience, you all know I played volleyball when I was younger, I believe that the sport made me a better person. When a lot of people around me were into drugs, sex and violence (exaggerated but you know what I mean), hindi ako nakasali sa kanila because I was busy playing volleyball. I didn’t have a lot of idle time for me to join them sa ganun. And the same time, I had the discipline to know I shouldn’t get into those things and I was with people who had the same interests as mine. Malayo layo sa tukso, ika nga.
Here are just some of the advantages of a child having an extra-curricular activity:
- It enhances their self confidence and self-esteem.
- They get to have a sense of responsibility
- They have an opportunity to build friendship outside school and expand their network.
- They get to build skills that are not taught in their classrooms but are important for their future.
As long as our kids are not over booked with extra curricular activities, it is healthy for them. Hindi sila puros gadgets lang ng gadgets.
This early, I am looking for classes in summer where she can hone further her dancing skills.
I discovered Promil Four iShine Talent Camp 7.
The Promil Four iShine Talent Camp 7 is a summer talent program in partnership with experts to help kids 6 to 11 years old to become their very best. It stays true to Promil’s mission of nurturing the gift. The kids can enjoy a whole new level of fun and experience interactive learning with Promil Four’s i-Shine 7 featuring Art, Music, Dance camps, and its two new camps, Theatre and Ballet. Anika will definitely be enrolling for the dance camp. Teacher Georcelle Dapat-Sy of the G-Force Dance School will be teaching it. Astig!
When I researched the iShine Talent Camp, I came across three notable i-Shiners: Worth Lodriga, Esang de Torres and Shaira Luna. We all know Shaira Luna. She’s a child genius and now a talented fashion and advertising photographer. Esang de Torres joined the iShine Talent Camp 3 and emerged as the grand winner. She’s little girl with a very beautiful voice. Anika and I watched her last year in Matilda the Musical play. Worth Lodriga, a national artist in the making, has a passion for art. He has already won a lot of international art contests. He is one of the youngest member of the Philippine Pastel Association.
I’m not saying that I want Anika to be like them. No naman. I just want to support Anika in her interests and see where it will take her. Bottom line, I just want her to enjoy what she wants doing. This summer is perfect for that opportunity. She’s not doing anything and joining the Promil iShine Talent Camp 7 will definitely make her summer productive.
